History is what helps us learn from our mistakes. Hopefully we have been doing this from day one.
Children grow and learn by trial and error...error is when someone tells them no...once they are old enough to understand "no" any way...
We usually reach a point in our lives when "history" becomes a bore and is just a series of timelines you have to learn for a class such as government or US History or some such class in school, high school and college.... so we ignore history and don't think we have much use for it.
In one aspect, we don't.
Then again....
History was once an oral tradition passed down from one generation to the next and part of life and learning. The Native American Tribes, the Clans of Scotland's Highlands, the Viking Raiders....
Who doesn't love a good story... a grand tale of adventure....
WE DO! Why do you think movies are such a big thing...those are the current version of every day stories and tales of grand imagination...some are grand tales of the past too.
Books and movies have made the art of oral traditions a bit of a by-gone era... but these are still important. Some have done major research into the forgotten times of the past and have written the tales and histories down for others who might be interested.
If you do Genealogy, then history has a more personal note. This is the story of your own personal tribe...your people, your family going back generations if you stay with it.
This is an on again off again journey for me. Recently I have put FOUR different journeys through the times gone by together to see THREE CLANS down my lineage.... it's VERY EXCITING to read about personal history as opposed to timelines and such.
Clan Ross, Clan Campbell and Clan MacDougall all have very rich and interesting histories that seem to date back to before the English held Scotland. So looking forward to MORE stories along this Journey!
Have a blessed day!
