Change: YOU make the difference

I watched this video on Facebook.  IF you would like to watch the video...please search  #FEDUP or visit my facebook page.

A friend had posted it. There is so much to say about this that facebook is NOT the medium. So here it is...on my blog.

They show a comparison of your brain on sugar and your brain on cocaine. This is apparently to illustrate that sugar is addicting. This addiction causes diabetes.

They have ONE point I would like to take the time to actually point out to you specifically as it has a broader concept and is a MAJOR issue to me. "Money over the american well-being"

This is a sad concept. When the phrase "the almighty dollar" rose up...it was but a spark compared to what that actually means today...Money in truth rules the world. Tobacco companies used this. The medical world uses this and so does the sugar industry. So does our government.

The only way to make a difference is to NOT be a part of it...don't contribute...make a stand and make a change.

I could make this post VERY long...but I refuse. It's and individual choice and if each individual doesn't contribute to the whole (as a society) then the change will not happen.
It shouldn't be the law-makers that make this happen. It should be the public. WE do NOT need lawyers and lobbyists to do this for us. There is this group titled "target market"....YOU are part of that group if you shop for "the product". When the target market demands something by changing the trend (what you buy)....then the market changes! It really is THAT SIMPLE. Change the market by changing the trends by changing what you purchase.

Have a great day and be well! :)

Winter is coming

Catching Up...

I am so far behind....and I was given the update at the GYM this morning....so I decided to update myself some more when I arrived at home.

I have to say, I have been out of the information loop for a LONG time. When you read this statement, consider that I am online and read A LOT of things EVERY DAY. But....I still have managed to miss making a connection that is very necessary.

"Separation of Church and State"....yeah that statement usually makes people sit up and take notice. It also means different things to different individuals. Well, maybe I should say it is interpreted differently by many different individuals.

In today's society, it seems as though everyone has a right to shout what they think and what they believe any where at any time of day....unless you are a christian. Then you are holding everyone back and suppressing them by not being tolerant. Now this is NOT how I see it. This is just what i see around me.
(the above was written about 6 months ago)

............... (today in the fall of 2014)

There are a lot of things people miss though the picture is right in front of them. I am no exception.
there are a lot of things I see that would have appalled so many in times before...I wonder at our State of Acceptance today. This is not political. This is not religious. This is society and it's projected viewpoint. Every generation thinks it moves forward. Sometimes, we move backward.

There are so many points to make running through my head....and yet...they are all related but not related. Yes I know how that sounds. Undecided. Unsure. Not reliable....but there are a lot of things to ponder and take seriously and not just shot from the tip of your tongue because you can.

Beheading, Hanging, and crimes punished...were once done so publicly.
the guillotine....the noose... They were sure things for certain crimes. Nothing was hidden in those punishments. That is not to say that all who got those punishments were guilty. It is to say that those punishments were stark and to the point and irreversible. They were held in the town square so that everyone knew the fate of those who committed such crimes.

No I am not saying that this is a time or tradition we should bring back...However, I think a crime has been committed on our society as a whole when this thought would shock so many and a crime of murder was committed in the form of a beheading and all the implications were not visited.

A journalist was beheaded over seas. I saw some outrage, but not as much as would have been present in our society two decades ago. and then suddenly, it disappears from the media and nothing more is heard. No action, and yet no more outrage to the circumstance either.....

A woman is beheaded at her workplace on our own soil in Mid-America (Oklahoma) and though it is broadcast in the media...there is less outrage over this than over the journalist. Again, a crime against our society in the fact that we actually seem (as a society) to accept that this can happen....and that little will be done about it.

I don't follow politics as much as I should. That is not to say that things do not bother me. I do not watch the news every morning and night. I do vote. I do have an opinion on the happenings in our nation and outside of our borders. I do pray for peace...only to know that peace may only come after a war that seems to be building......yet.....the lines of the architecture are not so clear and defined as they once were. I wonder if we are already at war...just not outright open warfare.

Do you see what I see? Do you understand the meaning....not just the words. Do you think about these things too....

Armageddon has been a word on the lips of many generations. I am sure each soldier and family who fought (or was involved in the times) in each world war and a few of the minor wars to come after thought "Armageddon" had arrived. Every generation has made the claim that "the end of days are near"......

Our newest sci-fi series states it beautifully and their world doesn't see it either....

"Winter is coming.".....on Earth...Not just in Westeros

Fitting...don't you think?
Maybe my perspective is a bit skewed.....

My thoughts for the moment....put down in words and flung out in cyberspace ...... for the world to read.... interpret what you will. Comment if you like. Please be respectful...NOT rude. I do enjoy other viewpoints and welcome them. I don't care for people yelling insults and "ripping" into something or someone on the sole principal that they can. I know not everyone shares my thoughts, opinions, or even my viewpoint.

Today is just one of those days....

No there is nothing wrong.
No, I am not having a bad day.
No, I can't tell you why I feel this way.
Today is just one of those days.

Yes, It is easier with a song.
Yes, I know it is a good day.
Yes, I will be productive in this day.
Today is just one of those days.

Yes, the day feels oppressive.
No, there is no reason.
Yes, I have made up my mind.
Today is just one of those days.

Yes, I will make it through.
No, it will not get me down.
Yes, God will prevail.
Today is just one of those days.

Rant and Raving Political Opinions

Larry Gatlin posted an "open letter" to the president of the United States. Please click the link to read that post. The video embedded with this post you will read (if you click the link) is a Fox23 News video. The videos loop from one to another. One is from our President. Another is from the Vice President. (I like the VP's stance on things except that our people have a point...how can we reach the gates of hell when we--our soldiers and fighters--are not allowed to leave the front gates?) and our Leaders. My point in this post and in response to these points--these videos-- is simply this: Larry Gatlin makes a very good point in illustrating that our president seems more worried about his image than about the American people.

When did our country become so image-conscious that leading takes a backseat to public opinion polls? Being a leader ANYWHERE requires doing things that are not-so-popular. If leading was easy then anyone could do it. Not just anyone can lead the American people.

Listen to our veterans and our soldiers on the front lines (the ones there NOW). Nick Powers has been on a few interviews as it seems in this Fox News video. There was also another letter shared just a couple of weeks ago (at least that is when I ran across it)...click here to read THAT letter also addressed to "the Leaders of the American People" and also by an American soldier.

Rules of engagement.... when you listen to this, what do you here? What comes to mind? what I hear and what comes to mind is the American Revolution. As a kid you see pictures of the British soldiers in Red-Coats....marching down the middle of the street with a drummer keeping the beat. The rules of engagement were changed then because while war should have limits and rules--there is NO FAIR FIGHT! Criminals don't play be the rules. Different cultures HAVE DIFFERENT RULES. Different belief systems create different rules, different styles of warfare. If you play by the rules and encounter a different set of rules from the other side, then you have to adapt your strategy or YOU LOSE! Isn't that what the Colonies did when the revolution was fought? Isn't that how guerrilla warfare was created? Why do we limit our soldiers and give our opponent the advantage? Why are our leaders not listening to those on the front lines? Why are Americans publicly executed like criminals of another era and we do nothing?

I saw mention of the video of the journalist's beheading...I my mind jumped back to another time when American journalists risked life and death to get the truth...they were Americans then and it cause OUTRAGE then....why does it not today?? Are we so self absorbed as to believe this can't touch us here at home? Because if nothing is done and AMERICA doesn't (or isn't allowed by our leaders) to stand up for what is right--for freedom, then it will touch us. Our future will be different. And if we are not the ones here to see it, our children and their children will be here and will witness the after shocks first hand.

That is not a legacy I want for my children.
"
--> History has shown us that evil is only successful when the righteous stand aside and do nothing. "So are we now a people (as a whole) who would let our leaders create a world-wide image of a nation that does nothing. Clearly we are once again being challenged...only this time we are letting them win with our lack of action.....

Please feel free to comment.  I have my opinions and am asking for yours. That doesn't mean I am asking for you to be rude and disrespectful. It means I am looking for intelligent debate and responsible opinions that could be fruitful to the readers that visit here.

Family Heritage, History, and Time Travel!

It is getting to be that time of year again... festivals, history, family...all colide to make one wish there was time travel in the way of Claire (Outlander by Diana Gabaldon).

I love this series (both in book and tv series by STARZ) because of the well written way it was done. The author, Diana Gabaldon is a wonderful writer...and with my heritage of Scots occurring on both sides of my family tree, I felt a more personal connection to it as well. I never liked history in school. But reading this series was a fabulous way to enjoy history in another way.

Speaking of History and heritage, the ScotsFest in Tulsa, Oklahoma is back for the weekend of September 19-21, 2014! This is a great place to connect with your history and heritage of the highlands as well.

September is always so busy for me. I always plan on attending the festival and always seem to miss the weekend it occurs. :( I am hoping this year will be different.

Public Service Announcement/Fundraisers For a Cause

Screen Shot 2014-08-14 at 8.45.20 AM

Soy candles are sold by some of the gentleman for $17 each (they can be burned in a scentsy pot/burner as well -so I am told.)
The candles fundraiser doesn't seem to be listed on their site....but a phone # was left when the two young men came buy selling so that future interest could be called in: 918-689-3250.
You may ask why I am posting this here on my blog. This is my PSA for the end of summer. (PSA being "Public Service Announcement")
I believe in giving back to the community and in helping those who are trying to help themselves.
Screen Shot 2014-08-14 at 8.45.56 AM
Don't take my word for anything here...CHECK IT OUT for yourself. All the information for doing that is provided here. If you believe in the cause, contact them and support the cause, either by purchasing some candles (which make great gifts and the holidays are coming around soon) or by donating if that is what you wish.
This blog post was NOT requested. As far as I know, no one at Calvary Baptist Ministries even knows about it's existence. This is just a PSA for a worthy cause....people helping people. We don't need a disaster to help others in need. The world is dim and grey before night falls with the next disaster as it is...so... shed a little light. Help someone. (and helping someone doesn't have to be here or through this post or through this ministry even.) Helping others in need is a good deed worth doing and I hope those who read this will agree. Some times, helping others is as simple as spreading the word of the need so that it gets more support. Sometimes helping is a donation or a purchase that supports a good cause. Whatever form you choose...Best wishes to all....God Bless You!

Winter FUN!

With winter snow days and everyone underfoot, sometimes it makes for a stressful day (or week)....but we managed to have some FUN! I saw alot of posts on the internet of people trying this and burning themselves...which to me speaks to a lack of attention to detail and not thinking things through.
a good plan is always a great idea even when it involves fun!

My husband found this particular project and we tried it. IT WORKS! and brings lots of laughter too.

We took a small cup of water and put it in the microwave....heated it up to just short of boiling...about 2 minutes for 8oz.
Then, dressed warmly and all spaced out for viewing but not placed where the wind would blow the hot water back onto the participants....Dad throws the water up in the air (out and away from himself and the onlookers)..... What do you think comes down???

SNOW!

Our own homemade SNOW!! the temperatures have to be cold of course and this was done during our nice little freeze spell when the kids were out on snow days. there was snow already covering the ground and I think temperatures were at about 27 degrees that day.....give or take.... but the fun we had repeating this about three more times just to make sure we really were seeing what we thought we were seeing.... It was AMAZING!

Now, go amaze your kids with some fun home-made snow when it gets too cold to be outside for long. :)

It is a memory worth the making :) and enjoying!

Welcome 2014

Welcome Two Thousand Fourteen!

Pictured above was the last adventure for 2013. My Family and I took a Midwestern Ski Trip to Weston, MO. Yes, you did read that correctly. I said "midwestern ski trip" to Missouri. :)

Snow Creek Resort is a wonderful little place located in Weston, MO that is perfect for a weekend ski trip for a family of any size. It isn't a resort in the sense of week long visits to a lodge on a mountain side. But it is a great little mini vacation location when you don't have time to spend a week at a Mountain side resort in Colorado or Arizona or further away.

Twenty-Thirteen was a good year. It had many good points and is now part of the past. With that change in numbers from 2013 to 2014 comes a new beginning. With that new beginning also comes room for new adventures. That is the part I look forward to. Adventures are what life's journey is made of...we each have our own to experience and hopefully share. Some adventures are great successes and others we'd rather had not happened. They each make up who we become and help us discover what we want and where we want to be or where we want to go in the future.

May "twenty-fourteen" offer you many new adventures of the successful variety and may many more dreams come true!

Happy New Year!
